Cheshire Historic Houses
Adlington Hall
Set in the heart of the Cheshire
countryside, and is one of England’s most beautiful country homes, with a history that can be traced back to
1040. The present structure, which dates back to 1315, incorporates both Tudor and Elizabethan architecture, new
wings and rooms having been added down the centuries. The main elements are the Great Hall (constructed 1480 to
1505), the ’black and white’ Tudor manor (1581) and the South Front and West Wing (built 1749 to 1757).
The Hall’s gardens. Have been landscaped in the style of Capability Brown. More recent additions to the gardens
include a maze and a rose garden.

Arley Hall
The present hall and chapel
were built by Rowland Egerton-Warburton between 1832 and 1845 in the Victorian-Jacobean style. Each of the main
rooms in the hall has an individual character and charm. There is fine plaster work and panelling, a magnificent
library and historic family furniture, pictures and porcelain. Arley is now the home of Viscount and Viscountess
Ashbrook.
The Arley estate consists of over 2,000 acres of parkland, farmland and woodland with several farms, cottages and
estate buildings. The delightful Arley Green, with its listed buildings and village green, is a secret gem tucked
away on the estate and only accessible by footpath
