Berry Pomeroy Castle 

This ruined castle is situated in a  Devon valley and steeped in local folklore and legend. The gatehouse and defensive curtain wall date from the late 15th century and behind them are the remains of an Elizabethan country house built C.1560-1600 by the Seymour family. On the wall of the gatehouse chamber is a 15th-century painting of the three kings bearing gifts to Christ.

This granite fortress, was built between 1910 and 1930 for the self-made millionaire Julius Drewe, and is the most works of Sir Edwin Lutyens. The interior combines the grandeur of a medieval castle with the comfort of the 20th century. The terraced formal garden has an established rhododendron and magnolia collection.

Devon - Castles - Compton CastleCompton Castle 

Built between the 14th and 16th centuries, the castle has been home to the Gilbert family for most of the last 600 years. Within the curtain wall can be seen the old kitchen with spiral staircase to the guard room, reconstructed great hall, solar and chapel. There is also a rose garden and knot garden.

Dartmouth Castle

This defensive castle juts out into the narrow entrance to the Dart Estuary. Begun in tlate 14th century, the castle was intended to protect the warehouses and homes of Dartmouth's merchants.

Haldon Belvedere

(also known as Lawrence Castle), a Grade II*, listed historic building was renovated in 1995 by the Devon Historic Buildings Trust supported by English Heritage.  Accessed by the spiral stone staircase, the miniature Ballroom on the first floor has its original mahogany panelled floor, large gothic windows and baroque plasterwork.

Lydford Castle & Saxon Town 

Standing above the gorge of the River Lyd, this tower, dating back to the 12th century, was notorious as a prison. The earthworks of the original Norman fort lie to the south

One of the largest castle ruins in the South West is sited on a long, thin shale outcrop in a wooded valley on the northern edge of Dartmoor

Tiverton Castle

The buildings, furnishings and exhibits on show here reflect the history of the building and its development. In particular there is a collection of Civil War arms and armour, some pieces of which can be tried on. Set in three acres of private gardens.

Totnes Castle 

This motte and bailey castle has one of the largest mottes and best preserved shell keeps in the country. Views over the River Dart.
