Beverley Minster
One of Britain’s finest examples of medieval gothic architecture. Built on the scale of a
Cathedral the magnificent Beverley Minster dates back to the 13th century and is a masterpiece of Gothic
Archilecture. Building work on the minster continued for almost 200 years. The stone from which it was built
was brought almost across the entire width of Yorkshire it was shipped along the Humber and then on barges
through Beverley Beck which had to be vv1dened and deepened to allow the heavy loads access. The
Minster features 68, 16th century misericords, saxon sanctuary chair, Percy tomb canopy and a large
collection of medieval musician carvings in stone and wood.
