Ellenroad Engine House   

The only surviving, complete working example of a genuine steam cotton-mill engine together with its original steam-raising plant. Erected in 1892, are the 3000 horse-power steam engines Victoria and Alexandra, a coal-fired Lancashire boiler and other steam-powered artifacts

Fairfield Moravian Settlement   

The Moravian Church was founded in 1457 in the Czech Republic by those disenchanted with the Catholic Church.  This settlement dates back to 1785 wihen the local Moravians established their community sequested a few miles from the city.  Well preserved and now surrounded by the suburbs, the Fairfield settlement, with its cobbled streets, attractive houses, church and segregated graveyard retains the tranquil atmosphere of the late  18th century.

Godlee Observatory

Has double telescopes (made by Grubb of Dublin), which have been in regular use since 1903 with an 8” refractor and a 12” newtoonian reflector and is the home of the Manchester Astronomical Society.

Mersey Valley Visitor Centre   

A small wetland reserve has excellent viewing opportunities throughout the year. It is a good example of how the Mersey Valley looked in the past. Typical plants and animals here can be seen if you know what you are looking for.

North West Film Archive   

Professionally recognised public home for the moving image heritage of the North West of England. The Archive cares for over 29,000 items from the pioneer days of film in the mid 1890s to video production of the present day.

Park Bridge Heritage Centre   

Park Bridge was an early industrial settlement, based on an iron rolling mill and forge to provide spare parts for the cotton spinning trade and other industries. In the Heritage Centre, once a stables, you can see how wrought iron was made and what it was like to live and to work at Park Bridge

Redhouse Farm (Maize Maze)

Following the foot and mouth crisis, dairy farmers Alan Clare, 49, and his wife Varzie, 37, saw their income slump and trade severely restricted at their shop at Red House Farm, Dunham Massey. So tenant farmer Alan and his wife have opened Britain's first Maize Maze to lure people back to the countryside. Visitors can wander around seven acres of growing maize at Red House Lane. They have to carry a flag with them so they can be spotted from outside among the 7ft-high crop.

Surviving the Blitz - Stockport Air Raid Shelters

Three Owls Bird Sanctuary and Reserve 

Founded in 1962 this sanctuary was developed by Eileen Watkinson, who received an MBE for her work.  The aims of the sanctuary are to take in  any wild bird in distress, to rehabilitate it and return it to the wild. Where this is not possible, due to illness or injury, but the bird is capable of sustaining a good quality of life, we offer it sanctuary in one of our many aviaries or on our 4½ acre Reserve

Wythenshawe Community Farm   

All the elements of a countryside farm are present here. Cows, sheep, goats, pigs, geese, ducks and horses are to be seen in field or pen and virtually all are friendly. The almost constant supply of piglets is equally constant in entertainment value and the prize-winning herd of Hereford cattle are an example of good husbandry
