Baldock Museum and Local History Society
There is one permanent display on the history of the town from Roman times to the present and
two changing displays. the larger one, "What Grandma Used To Do" describes the lives of women in Victorian
Baldock with sections on servants, straw plaiters, teachers, nurses and other working women and gentlewomen;
birth, death, fashion, marriage and elopement

Bishop's Stortford Local History Museum
An independent museum run by members of the Bishop's Stortford Local History Society on a
voluntary basis. Opened in 1979, it has three display rooms, an office, library and storage areas for
photography and documents.

The British Schools
Museum
A museum of elementary education from 1798, set in a unique
cluster of schoolrooms, including the only complete Lancasterian Schoolroom in the world (1837). Tours, Family

All the objects are housed, catalogued and conserved at the Museum
Store in Berkhamsted, an old fire station which was specially converted in 1994. Collections include:
photographs - particularly of the Berkhamsted, Hemel Hempstead and Kings Langley areas, archaeology -
various roman villa excavations and the Kings Langley Royal Palace, industry - John Dickinson's the paper
manufacturers of Hemel Hempstead, Cooper, McDougall & Robertson Ltd. of Berkhamsted and the

Datchworth Museum
A private village museum in what was formerly the blacksmith's shop, comprising one ground
floor room with the original forge as the main feature. There are 826 artefacts, the majority from village
residents, displayed in glass-fronted wall cabinets. The bulk of the collection being from the earliest part
of the last century up to and including the Second World War.

de Havilland Aircraft Heritage
Centre
(Incorporporating the Mosquito Aircraft Museum)
Situated at the historic Salisbury Hall it was the first Aviation
Museum in Britain. Located at the birthplace of the De Havilland Mosquito. Displays include the unique
prototype Mosquito and the De Havilland Mosquito B.Mk.35 (TA634) .

First Garden City Heritage Museum
The Museum tells the story of the Garden City Movement from its origins to the present day. It
is housed in a beautiful and unique building designed in 1907 by the architect Barry Parker. You can visit
Barry Parker’s office, filled with hand-made Arts and Crafts furniture and enjoy the temporary exhibitions
programme, which explores the social history of Letchworth Garden City

Forge Museum and Victorian Cottage
Garden
the museum's displays tell stories about how the crafts of blacksmithing and farriery have
developed over the years and also includes smaller exhibits about local village life. The museum is in
Grade II listed buildings and the garden has n early nineteenth century Bee shelter. There is a
resident blacksmith who can be seen at work.

Shaw's Corner
An Edwardian Arts and Crafts influenced house, the home of George Bernard Shaw from 1906 until his death in 1950.
The rooms remain much as he left them, with many literary and personal effects evoking the individuality and genius

Walter Rothschild Zoological
Museum
The museum was once the private collection of Lionel Walter, 2nd Baron
Rothschild, and is now part of The Natural History Museum. It houses more than 4000 mounted specimens of animals in
a unique Victorian setting.

Ware Museum
There is a permanent exhibition on the town's history and four temporary displays each year.
The collection includes a large array of Roman archaeology and social history of the town, including photos
and tools of the malting industry and of D Wickham & Co Ltd, railcar manufacturers and exporters
