Williamson Park, Ashton Memorial and Butterfly House

An imposing memorial (1906) in a public park with a woodland garden. The park was financed by the Williamson family and opened in 1878. Tree-lined walks lead trom the memorial to woods, lakes and floral displays. 53 acres. Attractions include a butterfly house, Mini beasts and animals, free flying foreign birds.

Towneley Natural History Centre & Aquarium

Houses seven different habitats representing the course of a river from source to sea. Its tanks contain varieties of fish and marine wildlife from trout and pike to dogfish and lobster. The geological and butterfly gardens show an abundance of rocks and fragrant and colourful plants to attract insects.
