Captain Cook Memorial Museum Whitby
A collection of exhibits about Cook's Whitby years and his later
achievements, includes unique items of great historical importance. It is located in the old house by
the harbourside which has for over two hundred years been associated with Cook
The Dales Countryside Museum tells the story of the Yorkshire Dales landscape and people
over the last 10,000 years. There is a Time Tunnel to see unique exhibits from the Stone Age to Victorian
times
Experience the civilian way of Life during World War II with sights, sounds and even the

The Georgian Theatre Royal and Museum
A unique example of Georgian Theatre with the majority of its original features intact.
Built in 1788 by actor/manager Samuel Butler, it formed part of a theatre circuit which included Ripon,
Harrogate, Beverley, Kendal, Ulverston and Whitby.The theatre was restored and reopened in 1963 and hosts
a lively programme of plays and shows. The museum houses a unique collection of playbills together with
the oldest and largest complete set of Georgian scenery in Britain.

Green Howards Museum
Set in a converted twelfth-century church, the museum's collection spans the 300 years of
unbroken history of The Green Howards, one of Britains's oldest and most famous regiments. Artefacts and
photographs from the Crimean War, the Boer War and the First World War form part of the vivid presentation
of The Green Howards' story in both peace and war. There is also an audio guide and video
presentations.

National Railway Museum
You can journey through over 200 years of life on the railways. Re-live the golden
age of steam and travel from the platforms, where station sound effects recreate the busy and exciting
atmosphere of another era. Travel back to 1829 and be amazed by the brilliance that made Rocket one of the
world's most famous steam locomotives. Or come face-to-face with the mighty Mallard - holder of the steam
world record at 126mph. You can take a look into Queen Victoria's luxurious royal carriage in
its original condition. Speed right up-to-date in front of a life-size section of the Channel Tunnel and
mock up of Eurostar.
The displays include a complete cobbler's shop, Victorian sitting-room and kitchen, school
room, general store, joiner's shop and solicitor's office with displays devoted to religious and domestic
life, costume, transport, agriculture, industry, workhouse and courthouse. All contained within the old

Richmondshire Museum
This award winning museum presents the story of Richmondshire and its people from the
prehistoric to the present day. Exhibits include the original TV set from the television series All
Creatures Great and Small, medieval Cruck house, transport in the Dales, local industry, geology and toy
cupboard.
Centuries of Ryedale history are relived in the rescued and restored historic buildings,
including thatched cottages, shops and craft workshops.
The Yorkshire Museum offers an impressive collection of and illumination of Roman finds
displayed at the Yorkshire Museum.
The Museum provides a combination of everyday life and extraordinary objects. From 19th
century cobbled streets to 1960s toys through the ages, from 16th century iron helmets to 20th century
flak jackets, the Museum is famous for some of the finest collections in the country. With over 100,000
items on show.
