Northamptonshire Historic Houses
The home of the Spencer family for nearly 500 years, and contains a fascinating variety of
pictures, furniture and ceramics, as well as boasting some fine interiors. Princess Diana's final
resting-place is in the grounds.
Often called the "English Versailles" this house has an outstanding collection of fine arts
including works by EL Greco, Murillo, Caracci, over 40 Van Dyck paintings,16th century carlets, 17th, 18th
century French and English furniture, tapestries, porcelain, incomparable armory and ceremonial coach.
Historic parkland. Plant centre, tearooms together with the Adventure Woodland Playarea.

House 
Home of the Dryden Family since the 1950's. Manor House containing Elizabethan wall
paintings & Jacobean plasterwork, formal gardens, medieval church and parkland
Cottesbrooke Hall & Gardens
A Queen Anne house dating from 1702. Reputed to be the pattern for Jane Austen's 'Mansfield
Park', with pictures, furniture and porcelain collections. The identity of the original architect is not
known but the house also underwent development during the 18th century, including the addition of the East
and West Bows. There are interior features such wrought iron work and rococo papier mâché wall
decoration.
Tudor and Georgian mansion has been the home of the Brudenell family since 1514, including
the 7th Earl of Cardigan who led the Charge of the Light Brigade. Surrounded by beautiful gardens and a

Holdenby House & Gardens & Falconry Centre
Near to Althorp, Holdenby,is a House whose royal connections go back over 400 years. Once
the palace and prison of Charles I. There is a garden which has been restored by Rosemary Verey, and
a Falconry Centre.
Kelmarsh Hall
Designed by James Gibbs and built between 1728 and 1732 and is surrounded by a working
estate, grazed parkland and gardens.
The ruins of an outstanding Elizabethan Mansion with unusually strict symmetry and amazing
Renaissance detail.

This 13th Century Manor is the oldest in Northamptonshire. The visit includes a 15th
Century dovecote and tithe barn museum. Unique to the region are the recreated 14th Century medieval
gardens.
