A fine, beautifully symmetrical, brick house. The house was built in 1719 - 20 by
Edward Clarke whose family had been lords of the manor since the 17th century
Built for John Churchill, 1st Duke of Marlborough during the reign of Queen Anne as a
reward for his military service in Great Britain’s foreign wars and civil uprisings. Blenheim
Palace is the Birthplace of Sir Winston Churchill. The Palace is set in 2000 acres landscaped by
’Capability’ Brown, a lake, Vanbrugh’s Grand Bridge and Column of Victory
Historic House built in 1300 and enlarged in 1550s. It is surrounded by a large
moat and set in parkland. The home of Lord & Lady Saye and Sele and owned by the same family
for over 600years. Mediaeval Great Hall, vaulted passages, fine fireplaces, panelling and plaster

Buscot Park
A Neo-classical mansion 18th-century house containing fine paintings and furniture of the
Faringdon Collection Trust and set in landscaped grounds.
Chastleton House 
Completed in 1612, this Jacobean house is one of England's finest and has been continuously occupied
by one family. The house is filled with a mixture of rare
and everyday objects, furniture and textiles collected since construction. There are typical Elizabethan
and Jacobean gardens with fascinating topiary.

A classic Georgian Mansion built in 1722. Historically important, from early
connections with Charles II to its use as a weekend retreat for Winston Churchill and members of his
War Cabinet during 1940 and 1941.
Aattractive honey-coloured stone house, built in the mid-18th century and the home of the Holbech family
for over 300 years. Even today it is occupied and administered by Mr. and Mrs. Holbech. The interior
plasterwork of Farnborough Hall is quite outstanding and the charming grounds contain 18th century temples,
a terrace walk and an obelisk.

A picturesque house, originally 14th century but much added to later, with a courtyard and
one surviving tower dating from 1347. Inside, the rooms contain some outstanding 18th century plasterwork.
The outbuildings include a Tudor wheelhouse, a walled gardens full of old-fashioned roses and wisteria,
and an ornamental vegetable garden.

Superb 1660s Manor House remodelled in early 1700s in red brick with stone facings.
Cantilevered staircase and finely proportioned panelled rooms with some good furniture and pictures. Set
in mature parkland, the gardens contain a notable collection of plants including rare trees, shrubs,
perennials and bulbs.

The house, built in 1635 by Sir Robert Dormer, is still in the ownership of the
same family. There is a walled garden with its herbacious borders, small parterre, pigeon house
and espalier apple trees. A fine herd of rare Long-Horn cattle are to be seen in the park.

The home of George Washington’s ancestors and is a superb example of a modest manor house
and garden of the time of Shakespeare. Visitors on non-event days can see the manor on an informative and
entertaining guided tour; enjoy the gardens; browse the gift shop and enjoy light refeshments in the
buttery.

Fawley Court
Built in 1684 - 90 for William Freeman, a London merchant with interests in West Indian
sugar plantations. There is a carved ceiling in the drawing room, a work by Grinling Gibbons from 1690
and is one of only three that have survived in the country. Since 1953 Fawley Court has been
maintained by the Congregation of Marian Fathers and houses a museum and a library.

Swalcliffe Barn
An early 15th Century half cruck barn built by New College Oxford, recognised as one of the
finest barns in the country, housing agricultural and trade vehicles from the County Museum's collection.
An exhibition shows 2500years of Swalcliffe history, with a display of local Romo-Britiah artefacts,
mosaic floor, pots and coins, maps and early photgraphs.
