Daniel’s Mill
A picturesque working watermill with the largest waterwheel powering a corn mill
still working in England. Still with millstones producing traditional flour. Lovingly restored,

Set on the largest and most spectacular of nine glacial meres, Ellesmere was the birthplace
of the Llangollen Canal which was designed and built by Thomas Telford from his offices in the town.
Surrounded by circular walks, woodlands and gardens, Ellesmere is a nature lover’s paradise. Modem
technology now allows the herons on the Mere to be viewed nesting and feeding their young from the
beginning of March to the end of May, all from the comfort of the Meres Visitor Centre. Ellesmere

Hawkestone Park
Known for its magical collection of follies, the parkland was used as a film location for
“Chronicles of Narnia” and is said to be the final; resting place of King Arthur.
Maynards is one of the last traditional bacon and ham curers in Britain. They use methods
and recipes handed down since the 17th century and produce over 20 regional varieties. Visit the farm shop

Located four miles east of Shrewsbury, Wroxeter is the semi-excavated site of the Roman
town of Viroconium (Uriconium). The city is known to be the fourth largest Roman settlement in Britain,
with a population in excess of 6,000 in its heyday. The extensive remains included a huge dividing wall
with gateway and the community baths. Managed by English Heritage, the site includes a visitor centre with
displays of excavated finds and images depicting everyday life in the city
