Gainsborough's House

The birthplace of Thomas Gainsborough, this Georgian-fronted town house with attractive walled garden displays more of the artist's work than any other gallery. The collection is shown together with 18th century furniture and memorabilia. The house has a commitment to contemporary art, reflected in a varied programme of exhibitions including fine art, printmaking and sculpture, and highlighting the work of East Anglian artists.

Smithsrow

(Previously Bury St Edmunds Art Gallery). Designed by Robert Adam, the Art Gallery is popular with lovers of art and architecture alike. The gallery runs a programme of nationally important exhibitions and off-site projects, together with a shop and a popular Christmas exhibition by the Suffolk Craft Society.
