The Animal Health
Based at Lanwades Hall on the outskirts of Newmarket, the Trust is the only charitable institution in the United
Kingdom engaged full-time in the diagnosis, cure and prevention of animal diseases. A visitor centre with
exhibitions and touch screens was opened by the Princess Royal in June 1998.

Baylham House Rare Breeds Farm
A wide range of British rare breeds farm animals await you at Baylham House. In addition to some very friendly
Maori pigs called Kune Kunes, you will meet examples of cattle, pig and sheep breeds whose population numbers are
currently at "Critical" levels. At appropriate times of the year you will find calves, lambs, chicks and piglets.
Children can meet and feed the friendly animals. The attractive location includes a riverside walk, a picnic area
and a Visitors' Centre selling gifts and refreshments.

Easton Farm Park
Opened as a farm visitor attraction in 1974. It was built as a model farm, and has been used as a dairy and
poultry-rearing facility during its working life. The farm has been converted into an educational farm to teach
children and families about life on the farm. The farm offers daily pony rides; pat-a-pet, where the children can
hold a rabbit or guinea pig; egg collecting and chicks hatching, and a daily meeting with Major, one of our big
Suffolk Punch cart horses.

Flatford Mill
There has been a mill on this site since c.1000. This building (c.1730) was once owned by Golding Constable,
father of the landscape artist John Constable, and featured on many of Constable's paintings. It ceased trading in
1901 and since 1946 has been used by the Field Studies Council for Art and Conservation courses

Green King Brewery
Greene King has been brewing in Bury St Edmunds for over 200 years. The new Brewery museum and shop is great for
all ages providing an insight into the history and art of brewing with the museum’s storyboards, illustrations,
artefacts and audio technology. They detail the natural raw ingredients used in brewing and explain what it is that
makes cask beer such a wholesome – as well as enjoyable – drink! Tours available daily.

Landguard Fort
Originally built during the 16th century, the remains of the extant fort date back to the 18th century and
feature alterations made during the past 100 years. Landguard overlooks the Orwell Estuary.

The National Stud
Founded during the First World War, firstly in Ireland then West Sussex & Dorset, the stud has been in its
present location since 1963. Set in 500 acres of glorious countryside the National Stud is the only thoroughbred
stud in the country that opens its gates to the public for guided tours. What you see on your visit will depend on
the season. Tours include the Stallion Unit along with the stallions in residence, the Foaling Unit and mares and
foals in their paddocks. Early season is the best time to see the foals. You will gain a fascinating insight into
the workings of a modern stud on our guided coach tours.

The Otter Trust is the oldest and largest otter conservation organisation in the world and helped save the
Otter from extinction in lowland England. At Earsham, on the banks of the River Waveney, you can see both
European (British) and Short-Clawed Otters as well as masses of wild and resident wildfowl in beautiful natural
and semi-natural surroundings.
Pakenham Water Mill
A fine 18th century water mill on a site where grain has been ground for at least 900 years. Visitors can
explore the river bank, which has excellent views for painting and photography. There is also a picnic/barbecue
area. Ancillary machinery includes a 1904 Blackstone 21 HP oil engine. Flour ground at the mill is sold in the
souvenir shop.

Saxtead Green Post Mill
A mill has stood at the same site at Saxtead for more than 700 years, when it served the needs of the thriving
farming community. Originally the mill had four 'common sails' on which sail cloths were spread. Saxtead Green post
mill, which ceased production in 1947, is still in working order and you can climb the wooden stairs to the various
floors, which are full of fascinating mill machinery.

Stanton Windmill
The best preserved post mill in West Suffolk, dating from 1751. It has been restored to working order over the
last few years and is able to produce flour. Stoneground flour is sold at the mill and in local shops

Suffolk Owl Sanctuary
Here you can see over 60 owls and other birds of prey from Britain and around the world. There are up to 3
different flying displays each day from April - September to ensure that you see these birds at their spectacular
best. There are also children's activities, a red squirrel colony, a woodland walkand, picnic tables, a play area
and a shop.

Sutton Hoo 
In 1939 one of the greatest archaeological discoveries ever made in Britain was made at Sutton Hoo. Beneath a
grass-covered mound was revealed an immense timber ship with a central burial chamber. It is thought to be the last
resting-place of Raedwald, King of East Anglia, who died around 625 AD. Within the chamber archaeologists found an
astonishingly rich assemblage of grave goods, including exquisite gold and garnet jewellery made in a local
workshop, silverware from the Mediterranean world and items of warrior kingship.
